Four suspects have been arrested and are expected to appear before the Kgomotso Magistrate’s Court soon
FOUR men from Pampierstad were arrested on Saturday for allegedly raping and robbing a 27-year-old woman.
Northern Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Dimakatso Mooi said the incident took place on Friday night, after the woman arrived at a local filling station in Pampierstad and requested the petrol attendant to assist her to hitch a lift to Tlapeng.
“Four men who were travelling in a vehicle offered her a lift,” said Mooi. “Along the way, the suspects pulled off into the veld, where she was allegedly raped by one of the suspects while the others took her cellphone and money.
“The woman was left in the veld and had to walk home, where she informed her parents what had happened.”
Mooi said that a case was opened and the police followed up on information received on the registration number of the vehicle.
“The car was traced to the vicinity of Pampierstad, where the victim’s cellphone was found in possession of the suspects.”
Mooi added that the four suspects – aged 27, 29, 31 and 33 years old – were arrested.
“They are expected to appear before the Kgomotso Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of rape and robbery.
“The police investigation continues.”
