NORTHERN Cape Premier Sylvia Lucas is leading a delegation that is participating in the 2017 Africa Local Industrial Co-operation Forum as well as the Africa Fair taking place in Hunan, China.
The delegation left yesterday and will return to South Africa on September 27.
Spokesperson for the Office of the Premier, Bronwyn Thomas-Abrahams, said yesterday that the premier had received an official invitation from Lou Suangfeng, the director general of the Department of Commerce in Hunan province to participate in the event.
“This conference is initiated and organised by the Hunan provincial government in partnership with the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.”
Thomas-Abrahams added that the visit was also based on the friendly co-operation agreement that exists between the Northern Cape and Hunan province.
She stated that the objectives of the mission included reinforcing the existing agreements with Hunan in order to advance growth and development in the Northern Cape as well as participating in stakeholder meetings.
During Lucas’ absence the MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Bongiwe Mbinqo-Gigaba, will be the acting premier.
