NC man survives suicide attempt after family axe murders

The police are investigating a double murder after a Northern Cape man attacked his 42-year-old wife and 22-year-old stepson with an axe at their home in Britstown.

THE POLICE are investigating a double murder after a Northern Cape man attacked his 42-year-old wife and 22-year-old stepson with an axe at their home in Britstown.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said the 44-year-old suspect tried to commit suicide following the incident on June 2.

“Family members saved the husband after they found him hanging from the roof in the bedroom. The suspect and both victims were rushed to hospital for medical treatment,” said Kock.

He added that the wife and stepson sustained severe wounds to their heads and died hours later.

“The suspect is currently still in a critical condition in hospital under police guard.”

Kock said that the motive for the attack was unknown at this stage.

“The police request that anyone with information please contact Detective Warrant Officer Sam Davids on 063 683 2044. The investigation continues.”
