A 25-YEAR-old Northern Cape man, Sipho Bosman, was sentenced to twelve months’ imprisonment or a fine of R6,000 by the Kuruman Regional Court after he was found guilty of illegal possession of endangered species.

Police spokesperson Captain Tebogo Thebe said Bosman intended to sell a pangolin for R200,000.

“The suspect was arrested on Friday, October 1, 2021, after information surfaced that he intended to sell a pangolin. A sting operation was conducted by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit, with the assistance of the Stock Theft unit and Local Criminal Record Centre, which resulted in the suspect being arrested. The suspect pleaded guilty to contravening the National Environmental Management Biodiversity Act,” said Thebe.
