The man was caught in the act by the victim’s sister.
VICTOR Swartz, 36, was sentenced to eight years imprisonment on July 29 2021 in the Upington Regional Court for the rape of a 16-year-old female.
The court ruled that 1 year of the sentence be suspended.
The incident happened on July 3 2020 at about 8pm when the victim was asleep at her place of residence in Askam.
Swartz entered the house and raped her.
He was caught in the act by the victim’s sister. A rape case was opened the following day and the accused was arrested.
Swartz was denied bail and stayed in custody until his sentencing.
The Provincial Head for Family Violence,Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS), Brigadier Nicky Mills commended Detective Sergeant Thabisho Mashilishili of Upington FCS for a job well done.
