NC man gets nine years after 13-year-old killed in accident

MARK NIEUWOUDT, 39 was sentenced to nine years imprisonment after he was found guilty of culpable homicide where a 13-year-old boy Ruben Cotzer, was killed in an accident.

Sergeant Omphile Masegela on Wednesday said the incident happened on June 30 2016 where Nieuwoudt failed to stop at an intersection and consequently collided into another vehicle where the deceased was travelling in at the time.

He stated that Nieuwoudt was sentenced in the Upington Magistrates court on May 13.

He added that another accused Eliya Jere, 28 was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for murder in the Upington Magistrate’s Court on May 14.

“The deceased Calvin Ndhlovu, 29 was stabbed with a knife during an altercation on November 15 2020 at a farm in Upington.”

Masegela said that in another case, Adrian Linydi, 23 was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for the murder of Paulo Murphy, 24 in the Upington Magistrate’s Court on June 15.

“The incident occurred on October 12 2020 at Upington taxi plaza.”

The acting station commander of Upington, Colonel Gert Jobs commended the investigating officer Detective Warrant Officer Stephan Roos.
