The man was found guilty of raping his 12-year-old step daughter.
A 50-year-old man from Kathu was given a life sentence after he was found guilty of raping his 12-year-old stepdaughter.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sergio Kock said the incident took place on June 4 2017 where the accused lured his stepdaughter into the room.
“She was left in his care and he raped her at their home in Kathu after promising to play a game with her.
“The girl told her friend at school about the rape incident and the accused was arrested the following day.”
He said the accused was released on bail of R1 000.
“He was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Kuruman regional court on June 3 (Thursday).”
The provincial head of the SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit Brigadier Nicky Mills commended Detective Sergeant Boikanyo Pilane from the Kathu FCS unit for his meticulous investigation that led to the conviction.
“The sentence was handed down while the country is observing Child Protection Week. The SAPS will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that perpetrators of such heinous crimes are prosecuted accordingly,” he said.
