It appears the victim was trying to summon help when he was attacked.

A 47-YEAR-old man was killed in the early hours of the morning after he was hit over the head in his shack in Motswedimosa, Ritchie.

Family members of the deceased believe that Willem Booysen was assaulted with a spade at around 4am on Monday morning.

“Nothing was stolen from his home. It appeared as if he was trying to summon help when he was hit over the head. He sustained head injuries and was bleeding on the side of his face. A neighbour found him lying in his yard. He was still alive but died on the scene, before the ambulance arrived,” a family member said.

Community members added that shortly before the murder, another resident was apparently hit over the head with a stone when he went outside to relieve himself.

“We think that it must be the same suspect.”

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Dimakatso Mooi said that the police in Ritchie were investigating a case of murder.

“It is alleged that an unknown suspect broke into the victim’s shack and hit him on the head with a sharp object before running away. The victim was certified dead on the scene,” said Mooi.

The police have requested anyone who may have information about this incident to contact Captain Rheeder of Ritchie Detectives on 082 469 0193 or the Crime Stop line 08609 10111.

“All information received will be treated with the strictest confidence,” Mooi stated.
