THE NORTHERN Cape Department of Education has extended the 2021 online learner admissions deadline to next week Friday.

Department spokesperson Geoffrey van der Merwe said that the extension, to Friday, October 9, 2020, followed after numerous requests were received from parents in the Province.

“The department received a number of requests from parents and legal guardians to extend the admission period with a week to allow parents to complete their applications.

“We have granted the extension and advise parents to make use of the opportunity to apply to more than one school.

“Applications to more than one school will allow the department to place a learner successfully, according to the criteria that will be utilised.

“The online admission system makes provision for a learner to apply to a maximum of five schools, which will ease the placement process,” said Van der Merwe.

He added that the placement process will start once online applications are closed.

Van der Merwe said that parents who are not satisfied with the placement of their child will be afforded an opportunity to appeal.

After the application process, parents and legal guardians will receive a system-generated SMS on the successful placement of their child.

Parents will be required to log onto www.ncadmissions.org to either accept or decline the placement.

Appeals must be lodged within seven days from receiving a notification from the school.

“Appeals will only be considered if they are based on incorrect or unfair application criteria as set by the head of department,” he said.
