NC Covid death toll reaches four

The Minister of Health, Dr Zweli Mkhizwe, announced that three more people in the Province have died from the virus.

THE NUMBER of people who have died as a result of Covid-19 in the Northern Cape is currently standing at four.

 The Minister of Health, Dr Zweli Mkhizwe, announced that three more people in the Province have died from the virus.

 “The deceased are a 54-year-old male from Ga-Segonyana local municipal area in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District, a 71-year-old male from the Kareeberg local municipal area in the Pixley ka Seme District and a 59-year-old female from the Sol Plaatje local municipal area in the Frances Baard District,” said Mkhizwe.

 Mkhizwe said 53 more people in the Province tested positive on July 3.

 “The total number of people who have tested positive in the Northern Cape has increased from 573 to 626,” he said.

 He said toddlers and pre-schoolers are also part of those infected by the virus.

 “Twenty five people in the Sol Plaatje local municipal area, including two toddlers, tested positive. Five people from Ga-Segonyana, including a 9-year-old girl, tested positive.”

 The following municipal areas recorded one new case each: Gamagara, Hantam, Khai-Ma, Siyancuma, Kareeberg and Kai !Garib.

 “Nama Khoi, Emthanjeni and Thembelihle recorded two new cases each.

 “The Umsobomvu local municipal area jumped by seven cases, including a 7-year-old girl and 8-year-old boy.”

 Three people from Dawid Kruiper, including a 12-year-old girl, tested positive.

 “One person previously allocated to Barkly West in Dikgatlong is now recorded as unallocated and will be reallocated to Barkly East in the Eastern Cape shortly. One person from another province will also be reallocated shortly.

 “The number of people deemed recovered stands at 232. The people deemed recovered in each district have been reviewed which has resulted in some people being reassigned to a different local municipal area,” Mkhizwe said.
