NC cops nab wanted suspect in KZN

A 25-year-old man was arrested in Weenen in KwaZulu-Natal after the Northern Cape provincial Organised Crime Investigation unit followed up on information regarding a suspect who was wanted in connection with a murder and kidnapping case.

A 25-YEAR-old man was arrested in Weenen in KwaZulu-Natal after the Northern Cape provincial Organised Crime Investigation unit followed up on information regarding a suspect who was wanted in connection with a murder and kidnapping case.

The alleged incident occurred in Ritchie in January 2023.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said the suspect was arrested at a tavern in KZN.

“On Sunday, at about 6pm, a 25-year-old male suspect was arrested at a tavern in Weenen. During the arrest, the police confiscated a 9mm pistol and five rounds of ammunition. The suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and will appear in court soon. The investigation into the matter continues.

“The provincial head of Organised Crime Investigation, Brigadier Johan Myburgh, commended the members for the meticulous investigation that led to the arrest of the suspect and the seizure of the firearm.”

Kock added that Myburgh reiterated that putting a stop to the proliferation of firearms remains a priority for the police in the fight against crime.
