THE ZF Mgcawu police arrested a 38-year-old foreign national after he was found in possession of a suspected stolen solar panel.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Colonel Mashay Gamieldien said the police members apprehended the suspect while they were busy conducting a patrol in Upington.

“The suspect was arrested on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 12.30pm. While patrolling the vicinity of the Brug and Keimoes road, the members noticed the suspect with the solar panel alongside the road and conducted a stop and search. After interviewing him and requesting proof of ownership, which he failed to provide, he was arrested and charged for possession of suspected stolen property,” said Gamieldien.

She added that the solar panel is valued at approximately R2,000.

“The 28-year-old suspect will appear in the Upington Magistrate’s Court soon for possession of suspected stolen property.”

Gamieldien also warned the public that buying stolen property is a criminal act.

“A stern warning is issued to the public that it is a crime to buy stolen property and they should instead report and reject stolen goods.”
