ANC NORTHERN Cape provincial secretary Deshi Ngxanga has warned “ill-disciplined” cadres against pretending to stand as candidates for the upcoming local government elections.

He said on Wednesday that local party members were designing posters where they purported to be ANC candidates standing for certain wards.

“That’s the height of ill-discipline. The guidelines are clear and instructive regarding what needs to happen before candidates are pronounced. We want to reiterate that branches will have to convene branch general meetings and community meetings to nominate candidates,” said Ngxanga.

He added that the extended ANC provincial executive committee and its alliance partners would make the final decision on which candidates would contest the local government elections.

“This practise of designing posters in the name of the ANC is prevalent in the ZF Mgcawu and Frances Baard regions. This will bring unnecessary confusion and discord in the ANC. The PEC pleads with ANC members to desist from this practise.”
