The last phase of the process leading up to the provincial list conference had been completed
PREPARATIONS for the ANC provincial list conference are under way, although judgment is still awaited on the court application to prevent the nomination of candidates to fill posts in the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature and Parliament after the national general elections next year, under the current leadership.
Northern Cape High Court Acting Judge Willem Coetzee last week, indicated that he would deliver judgment by tomorrow, ahead of the ANC provincial list conference that is scheduled to take place on Saturday at the TVET College in Upington.
ANC provincial spokesperson Naledi Gaosekwe said yesterday that nominated candidates had been screened last week and preparations have been made, where voting would take place this weekend.
“The national list conference will be taking place next week and if the court rules in our favour, we would not have enough time for the preparations and logistics, such as organising accommodation and catering, for the provincial list conference. If the court rules in favour of the applicants, we will respect and abide by the court decision to postpone the provincial list conference,” said Gaosekwe.
ANC provincial secretary Deshi Ngxanga said that the last phase of the process leading up to the provincial list conference had been completed.
“Candidates who were nominated by the branches during the branch general meetings were screened according to the number of nominations received, their qualifications, skills and experience. Their citizenship, any previous criminal records, pending criminal cases, track record with the ANC was tested. Candidates may not be insolvent.”
Ngxanga said the names of pre-registrations started on Tuesday in the Pixley Ka Seme region.
“Two teams from the provincial office were sent out to the different regions. Delegates who have registered will receive their accreditation tags by Friday (tomorrow).
“The provincial list committee is confident that the process that they undertook was thoroughly done and ensured that the ANC will field the best candidates to the provincial legislature and the National Assembly.”
