ANC provincial secretary says that the majority of ANC Youth League leaders in the Province are older than 35 and no longer qualify to contest at the upcoming conferences

THE ANC in the Northern Cape will have to replace a number of its leaders in the ANC Youth League (ANCYL) as they are older than 35.

The ANC is set to hold its provincial and regional conferences from March.

ANC provincial secretary Deshi Ngxanga said that the party’s national executive committee (NEC) had instructed that all outstanding branch, regional and provincial conferences should be held by April 30, in compliance with the ANC constitution and Covid-19 regulations.

“The NEC further stated that provinces and regions whose terms expire beyond May 2021 should not be disbanded during the local government elections campaign but should rather be extended.”

Ngxanga said the majority of ANC Youth League leaders were older than 35 and no longer qualified to contest in the upcoming conferences.

“The term of the ANC Women’s league (ANCWL) regional structures has lapsed and their conference was delayed by the new ANC membership system. This situation will be corrected as soon the Covid-19 alert level allows for such a gathering,” added Ngxanga.

He also said that the Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association (MKVA) would now form part of the party’s PEC/PWC meetings in terms of the constitution to enable them to “meaningfully participate in the life of the ANC”.

“The ANC PEC will ensure that all branches and regions are assisted to develop road maps towards the branch general meetings and regional conferences, ie to activate dispute resolutions committees at all levels, to ensure that challenges that may arise are resolved expeditiously.”

Ngxanga said that the ANC provincial executive committee had endorsed the following dates for the provincial and regional conferences:

Provincial conference: March 26-28

Frances Baard region: April 23-25

Namakwa region: April 23-25

Pixley ka Seme region: April 23-25

ZF Mgcawu region: April 30 – May 2

John Toalo Gaetsewe region: April 30 – May 2
