THE BODY of a 29-year-old woman who was reported missing on the weekend was found in the veld in Jan Kempdorp on Monday.
Community members said Franscina Leeuw was reported missing on Sunday, April 17 and her naked body was found the following day.
The community members suspect that she was raped before being murdered.
Police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana said on Tuesday that the Jan Kempdorp police were investigating a case of murder and rape after a woman’s body was found in the veld in Jan Kempdorp.
“Preliminary investigations show that the victim could have been raped before she was murdered. A passer-by alerted the police after noticing the body lying in the veld,” said Tawana.
He added that no arrests had been made yet.
“We are requesting any person with information that could assist us to bring the perpetrator to book to contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Raneo Molelekeng, on 060 9769 067 or to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
“The investigation continues.”
