Fernando Beukes, 32, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the murder of John Brudy Field, 43, following his guilty plea in the Springbok Regional Court this week.
According to Northern Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock, the incident unfolded on March 2, 2024, at around 9.25am when Beukes, accompanied by a female acquaintance, was walking home from town.
What started as a verbal altercation between him and Field quickly escalated. In a moment of fatal rage, Beukes entered Field’s yard and delivered a single, lethal stab wound to his chest.
Field succumbed to his injuries on the scene, and the police wasted no time in arresting Beukes.
On January 28, the court sentenced Beukes to 15 years behind bars, with five years suspended for a period of five years. He was also declared unfit to own a firearm.
The “meticulous” work of Detective Sergeant James Rosenberg of the Nababeep Detectives was praised by SAPS management for securing a solid conviction.
