LERATO Park residents have warned that if a suspect, arrested for the murder of a 26-year-old man, is released from custody, he will face the wrath of the community.

It is believed that an argument broke out between the suspect and the deceased over an earring.

The deceased was found with stab wounds in Lerato Park on Monday morning.

Community members indicated that this was not the first time that the suspect had allegedly been involved in violent crime.

“We do not feel safe if he is allowed to roam the streets. The ward councillor tried to assist him and found work for him but he instead chose to get involved in violent crimes. He must not be granted bail and must stay behind bars,” said the community.

Residents stated that the deceased was a devout Christian and a law-abiding citizen. “Every Sunday you find him at church.”

Distraught family members arrived at the scene on Monday morning and were consoled by residents living in the area.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Mohale Ramatseba said the incident happened at about 10am on Monday.

“It is alleged that prior to the murder incident, the two had an argument. According to the preliminary investigation the two were fighting over an earring which led to the fatal stabbing,” said Ramatseba.

He said that the Roodepan police arrested the suspect at the crime scene in Lerato Park.

“He is expected to appear before in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of murder.”
