Her murder occurred in the middle of Child Protection Week and has caused outrage amongst community members
A 27-YEAR-old man accused of murdering a 16-year-old girl from Douglas, whose half-naked body was found with her throat slit last week, remains in custody while awaiting a bail application.
Rodrich Francke, 27, was arrested shortly after the body of Jolandre Tolli, 16, was discovered by community members on the morning of June 6.
Tolli went missing on June 2 after last being seen at a local tavern. Her bloodied, half-naked body, with her throat slit, was discovered four days later in an open veld in Breipaal, Douglas, just over 100 metres from her home.
Her murder occurred in the middle of Child Protection Week and has caused outrage amongst community members, who slammed the police for not “doing more” in assisting in the search for the missing teenager or following up on leads provided to them by community members.
This includes information that Francke was allegedly the last person to be seen with Tolli before her disappearance.
Tolli will be buried in Douglas on Saturday.
Meanwhile Francke, who is facing a charge of murder, made his first appearance in the Douglas Magistrate’s Court this week, where the case was postponed to next week for a formal bail application.
He will remain in custody until then.
