THE CONSTRUCTION of a multi-million rand school in Uitsig is expected to commence in about two weeks time.

This was the announcement made by Northern Cape Premier, Dr Zamani Saul during the launch of the Parliamentary Constituency Office in Petrusville on Monday, June 14, 2021.

Saul said R100 million had been budgeted by government for the construction of the school which will afford children what he termed “a decent education”.

“The construction of the primary school in Uitsig will commence June 28, 2021. The contractor will be at the premises on the day and work will start. We will appoint decent teachers with the building of this decent school. This will ensure our children receive decent education,” said Saul.

Saul also handed over 1 000 blankets and food parcels to the community members.

Meanwhile, Saul said the country is commemorating Youth Day, which is on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 during a time when youth unemployment is rife.

He said the majority of the youth will be afforded employment opportunities during the construction of the school.

“We have noticed that most of our youth are unemployed and are idle at home. This is the reason why the MEC of Education, Zolile Monakali and myself have decided that the majority of the youth in the area should be employed on the school construction project.

“That will ensure that we reduce the unemployment rate amongst the youth and also result in the youth receiving training.

“We have also decided that 30% of the contract must be allocated to local contractors. The local contractors must be young contractors as well as female contractors. We need to focus on empowering women. We cannot only employ and empower men. Women also need to be empowered and they need to build their riches.”
