THE NORTHERN Cape Department of Roads and Public Works has stated that the R31 road in the vicinity of the Danielskuil T-junction remains closed in order for repair work to continue.

Department spokesperson Crystal Robertson said that “much progress” has been made on the road.

“Much progress was made this week on the R31 road in the vicinity of the Danielskuil T-junction to ensure the safety of truck drivers and road users. The department is completing the final layer of the section which was previously damaged and flooded. Thereafter it will be compacted. The pumping of water is ongoing,” Robertson said.

“Boulders in the road reserves remain an obstruction and do not allow for the free flow of drained water. The department is considering blasting of the boulders and will commence the application process.”

Robertson urged road users to adhere to the road signs.

“The road remains closed and we request motorists to please comply with the safety officers on site. We hope to open the road soon.”
