THE MOTSEPE Foundation recently donated R1 million to Sol Plaatje University (SPU) to assist the student representative council (SRC) to carry out programmes including those dealing with student debt, supporting mental health wellness and women’s well-being and promoting gender equality.
The co-founder and CEO of the Motsepe Foundation, Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, was hopeful that the donation would alleviate some of the financial pressures on the institution and students.
The Vice-Chancellor and Principal of SPU, Professor Andrew Crouch, expressed his gratitude for the donation, which he stated would address some of the inequalities caused by social injustices in society, poverty and a lack of education in South Africa.
“The Motsepe Foundation’s commitment to ubuntu is commendable and will lay the foundation for future generations to emulate its generosity,” said Crouch.
“SPU is immensely grateful for this donation that will be used to provide students with a safe and quality environment where teaching and learning takes place.”
