THE MINISTER of Communications and Digital Technology, Mondli Gungubele, recently opened an advanced cyber laboratory facility at Ba Ga Lotlhare Secondary School in Heuningvlei in the Northern Cape.

The cyber lab, which aims to enhance education through digital access and technological resources, was donated by the State Information Technology Agency (Sita) and will provide internet access to over 4,175 pupils as well as the community.

The handover event on March 15 was attended by Northern Cape Premier Dr Zamani Saul, the mayor of Joe Morolong Municipality and the district mayor and councillors.

The head of corporate affairs at Sita, Tlali Tlali, said that an amount of R300,000 was also donated to Ba Ga Lotlhare Secondary School to enhance its security infrastructure.

“The lab is equipped with 40 laptops, two years of internet connectivity, charging stations, interactive whiteboards and provides specialised training in digital literacy, coding and robotics,” said Tlali.

He added that as part of their corporate social responsibility efforts, Sita distributed sanitary packs to pupils and planted trees to mitigate carbon emissions, promoting environmental sustainability.
