A MEMORIAL service for medical officer Dr Caryn Collins will be held at the West End specialised hospital recreation hall today at 11am.

The police opened an inquest into her death after she was found dead in her bed at her home last week.

Police spokesperson, Captain Olebogeng Tawana, said on Tuesday that the post-mortem results had not been released yet.

Spokesperson for the Department of Health, Lulu Mxekezo, said the memorial service was open to anyone who wished to attend.

“She was well known and loved by her colleagues, patients and friends,” said Mxekezo.

She indicated that the autopsy results would be availed to the family.

“The Northern Cape is the most rural province in the country, hence it struggles to recruit specialists. Most clinicians prefer to work in urban areas considering their ongoing training and availability of good schools for their children. So it will be very difficult to replace her,” added Mxekezo.
