Memorial service for “Bra Stevo”

Steve Thobigunya Ralane will be best remembered for his unrelenting commitment to the fight against gender-based violence, ANC provincial secretary, Deshi Ngxanga, said

A MEMORIAL service will be held for ANC activist Steve Thobigunya Ralane at the Mayibuye Centre at 1pm on Thursday, October 15.

ANC provincial secretary, Deshi Ngxanga, said Ralane, who was affectionately known as Bra Stevo, served as a public servant for the provincial government for 26 years.

“He worked as a programmes coordinator, VIP protector and was employed as an assistant director of executive outreach programme and coordinator for commemoratives days advocacy programmes at the Premiers Office at the time of his death.

“Bra Stevo occupied several positions in the ANC as an organiser, head of security and logistics. He was a member of the South African Communist Party and ANC member of the Percival Jas branch in the Sol Plaatje sub-region.”

Ngxanga added that Ralane advocated for the empowerment of gender equality.

“He will be best remembered for his unrelenting commitment to the fight against gender-based violence.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Ralane. It is our hope that they find some solace during this very difficult time in the knowledge that their loss is shared by society at large, the comrades and friends.”

Ngxanga said the memorial service would be addressed by the ANC provincial leadership.

“All mourners will be required to observe Covid-19 regulations, by wearing masks at all times, maintaining social distancing and wash hands with alcohol-based sanitisers.”
