“Our society and our communities are carrying a heavy burden under evil-doers who hurt others in the most barbaric manner possible”

THE NORTHERN Cape MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison, Nontobeko Vilakazi, has strongly condemned the gruesome killing of a man whose burnt body was found in a drum in a veld next to the Galeshewe Police Station on Wednesday.

Vilakazi expressed her shock following the discovery of the body by two Galeshewe residents during the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The drum was dumped at the scene after the deceased was apparently killed and set alight somewhere else.

Vilakzi said the discovery and the preliminary information painted a shocking picture of violence and cruelty.

“Our society and our communities are carrying a heavy burden under evil-doers who hurt others in the most barbaric manner possible. We need to, as a society, reject and fight such violence through our active participation and strengthening of community policing structures. Our communities must speak up and speak out,” she said.

She commended the local police for working diligently in trying to solve the case.

“‘I commend the police who work under severe strain and conditions where they face such trauma on a regular basis. May they be strengthened and proceed with diligence. I make a call to the community to aid the Galeshewe police by coming forward with any information that can promote successful investigations,” said Vilakazi.
