THE Northern Cape Department of Sport, Arts and Culture will commemorate Nelson Mandela International Day on Monday by cleaning the Mayibuye multi-purpose centre in Mankurwane.

Nelson Mandela International Day is an annual international day in honour of Nelson Mandela which is celebrated each year on 18 July on Mandela’s birthday.

Spokesperson for the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture Morapedi Sekhoane said the centre was the most active and visited centre in Galeshewe.

“The centre provides access to event hosting through its conference facilities, accommodates music and dance academies and has a state of the art sport facility as well as offices. The department has requested and urged its officials to attend the Mandela Day event and volunteer at least 67 minutes of their time towards the project.”

He added that they would place emphasis on promoting community and backyard gardens, supporting fruit and indigenous tree planting and creating awareness surrounding food security and climate change, this year.
