A 50-YEAR-old man was arrested on a charge of possession of drugs by members of the Marydale Visible Policing (Vispol) unit.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana said on Monday that Vispol members tracked down a truck that was reported to be transporting farm workers, where one of the passengers was suspected to be in possession of drugs.

“The truck was pulled over as it was heading to the farm, transporting approximately 30 farmworkers, and members searched passengers and their luggage on September 4. During the search, a 50-year-old man was found in possession of dagga packed in zip-locked bags. The suspect is expected to appear in the Marydale Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of possession of dagga,” said Tawana.

The acting district commander of Pixley ka Seme, Brigadier Nomana Adonis, applauded the members for “acting promptly after receiving information and putting the suspect behind bars”.
