A 26-YEAR-old Northern Cape man has been sentenced to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of four counts of rape by the Mothibistad Regional Court.

Tlotlo Hele was found guilty of the four charges after he repeatedly raped his ex-girlfriend in the presence of her two-year-old son.

Police spokesperson, Captain Olebogeng Tawana, said that on the night of the incident in April last year, Hele had broken into his ex-girlfriend’s house and assaulted and raped her.

“The victim sustained open cut wounds to her face. After the incident, Hele fled the scene and was on the run for three months.”

Tawana added that the victim’s testimony, together with forensic evidence, linked Hele to the crime.

“He was kept in police custody until the case was finalised.”

The Northern Cape Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major-General Koliswa Otola, applauded the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Caren Nel, for her excellent investigative work. He also commended the National Prosecuting Authority and the Department of Justice for removing criminals from society.
