A 38-YEAR-old Northern Cape man who raped a six-year-old girl in Okiep was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Springbok Regional Court on Thursday.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said the girl was lured to the man’s home when he offered her sweets on September 29, 2018.

“The girl is a friend of the accused’s daughter and she came over to play at the house in Okiep,” said Kock.

He added that the girl was raped “more than once”.

“The accused, Dudley Young, 38, was arrested and found guilty of raping the girl on March 25. He was sentenced on Thursday in the Springbok Regional Court.”

The acting provincial commissioner for crime detection, Brigadier Nicky Mills, commended Detective Constable Mitchell Cloete, from the Springbok SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit, for the “meticulous investigation of this heinous crime”.
