Man sentenced to life behind bars for raping nine-year-old boy

A 38-year-old Northern Cape man was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Kathu Regional Court for raping a nine-year-old boy and attempting to rape two young girls.

THE NORTHERN Cape provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Koliswa Otola, has welcomed the life sentence handed down to Katlego Kingsley Langa.

Langa, 38, was found guilty of one count of rape and two counts of attempted rape by the Kathu Regional Court on Tuesday, November 8.

It was revealed in court that in two separate incidents in March 2012 and January 2013, Langa attempted to rape a four-year-old and a seven-year-old girl, respectively.

The girls were rescued by community members during these incidents.

In September 2016, Langa raped a nine-year-old boy.

According to the evidence, he abducted the victim by force while he was playing with his friends and dragged him to his house, where he raped him.

In addition to the life sentence, Langa was also declared unfit to possess a firearm and his name will be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders.

Otola meanwhile applauded the investigating officer in the matter, Sergeant JAM Tyers, for the “excellent investigative work that resulted in the conviction of the perpetrator”.

Otola added that the sentence will also send a clear message that those committing such heinous crimes will feel the full might of the law.
