A 48-YEAR-old man, Manus Kordom, has been sentenced to 19 years imprisonment for housebreaking and the rape of a 52-year-old woman who was busy taking a nap.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam said the Pofadder Magistrate’s Court sentenced Kordom to seven years for housebreaking and 12 years for rape.

“The incident occurred on April 27, 2019, in Pella. The court heard that the accused, who is known to the woman, gained entrance to the house and raped her while she was taking a nap after doing some chores at a friend’s house. The rape and housebreaking sentences will run concurrently,” said Sam.

He added that the investigating officer (IO) was applauded for her part in securing the conviction and sentencing.

“The Northern Cape provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Koliswa Otola, applauded the Pofadder SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit’s investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Anna Januarie, for the sterling investigations that ensured justice for gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) victims,” Sam said.
