Man sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for rape

The Galeshewe Sexual Offences Court has sentenced a 25-year-old man to 12 years direct imprisonment after he was found guilty for the rape of a 36-year-old woman.

THE GALESHEWE Sexual Offences Court has sentenced a 25-year-old man, Maxwell Mxolisi Madela to 12 years direct imprisonment after he was found guilty for the rape of a 36-year-old woman.

Galeshewe police spokesperson, Sergeant Timothy Sam said the incident happened in October 2020.

“On October 24, 2020 the female complainant went to sleep after she attended a birthday party. She was awoken by someone busy raping her and fought him off. The accused ran away, but was arrested shortly thereafter,” said Sam.

Sam said the investigating officer was applauded for the arrest and conviction.

“The Galeshewe Family, Children and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit Commander, Lieutenant Marli Strydom lauded the investigating officer, Detective arrant Officer, Aretha Classen for the sterling investigation that led to the conviction of the accused,” he said.
