Man in court for murder of 4-year-old NC boy

THE MAN who was arrested in connection with the murder of a four-year-old boy in Ikhutseng, Warrenton will apply for bail on October 26.

The accused, Saul Vannek, was arrested after the body of the young boy was found at his home in Ikhutseng concealed in a box, covered with a blanket, on Friday night, October 9.

The boy was reported missing on October 9 after he left home to visit a nearby tuck shop at about 11am.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) regional spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane said the 42-year-old accused appeared in the Warrenton Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

“The accused, Saul Vannek, made a first appearance on a charge of murder. He will make a formal bail application on October 26. The State will be opposing bail,” said Senokoatsane.

He added that the accused would remain in custody.

The police are still investigating the motive for the murder and indicated that the accused was not related to the deceased, who was identified as Thapelo Monageng.
