Man in court for business robbery

The men allegedly assaulted the shop owner and forced him to give them money from the cash register.

CAUGHT IN THE ACT: Security cameras captured the moment a well-known Kimberley businessman robs a foreign national shop owner, Amimul Islam (right), of money on Saturday afternoon.

LOCAL businessman Shukri Darries appeared in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court yesterday on charges of business robbery.

It is alleged that he robbed a city supermarket of R4 000 as well as R1 800.

He was released on bail of R300 at the police station, prior to his court appearance.

The matter has been postponed until next month.

According to the police, two men entered a supermarket in Schmidtsdrift Road on Saturday, at about 2.10pm. The men allegedly assaulted the shop owner and forced him to give them money from the cash register.

The suspects fled the scene but one male suspect was arrested hours later while the police are still searching for the second suspect.
