THE HIGH Court in De Aar handed down a 26-year prison sentence to 49-year-old Franklin Meas after he was found guilty of murdering his 39-year-old girlfriend in Richmond.

The incident occurred on October 30, 2023.

According to Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam, Meas repeatedly stabbed his girlfriend, resulting in her death. He then concealed her body in a wild pig hole. The court heard the gruesome details during the trial.

The court found Meas guilty and sentenced him to 20 years for murder and an additional six years for defeating the ends of justice. Both sentences will run concurrently. In addition, Meas has been declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The Northern Cape provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Koliswa Otola, commended the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Stephany Koen, for her meticulous presentation of evidence in court that ensured that a gender-based violence and femicide perpetrator was brought to book.
