THE NORTHERN Cape SAPS management has welcomed the 25-year prison sentence handed down to a 30-year-old man from Springbok for raping a five-year-old girl.

The incident dates back to November 1, 2020.

The young girl was walking from her home to a nearby shop when she was accosted by the accused, who took her to his shack and raped her.

The victim told her mother about the incident and the accused was arrested.

He was found guilty of rape and sentenced to 25 years imprisonment on November 3.

The provincial head of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses (FCS) unit, Brigadier Sipho Kheswa, applauded Sergeant Anthea Cloete Landrew of the Springbok FCS for her “excellent investigation that resulted in the outstanding sentence”.

It was noted that the sentence will send a strong message as the country approaches the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign.
