Man arrested with stolen property from a reported stolen vehicle

A 46-year-old male suspect was apprehended and arrested after he was found in possession of presumably stolen goods. The four stolen tyres and rims were seized.

A 46-year-old man was arrested after suspected stolen property which apparently belonged to an alleged stolen vehicle.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Mashay Gamieldien said members from the ZF Highway acted on information of a stolen vehicle.

“The vigilance and alertness of the Sergeant Wally Crause, Constable Daniela Modisaotsile and Constable Chivee Niewenhuisen attached to the ZF Highway on April 29, 20022 acted swiftly after receiving information of a white VW Golf with registration JZY 392 NW that was allegedly stolen on Thursday, April 28, 2022 in Paballelo, was recovered. While following-up on information the members received similar information that the vehicle was spotted in Rosedale in the Vergenoeg informal settlement near the railway line. Upon further investigation it was discovered that the vehicle was indeed the stolen vehicle,” said Gamieldien.

She said the vehicle was however stripped when it was found.

“Information received indicated that the vehicle was completely stripped.

Further information revealed that a 46-year-old male suspect was apprehended and arrested after he was found in possession of presumably stolen goods. The four stolen tyres and rims were seized. The suspect was arrested and charged possession of suspected stolen property and will appear in the Upington Magistrates court soon,” she said.

Gamieldien urged the public to refrain from buying stolen goods.

“The police are issuing an urgent warning to the public to refuse and refrain from buying stolen goods but instead report and reject it as buying stolen goods is a crime,” Gamieldien said.
