The accused allegedly forced his way into the complainant’s home in Sakhile village where he raped her repeatedly in February 2021 before fleeing the scene.
A 46-YEAR-old accused will remain in police custody following his arrest in Sakhile village, near Pampierstad for the alleged repeated rape of a 68-year-old woman.
Captain Olebogeng Tawana said he appeared briefly in the Pampierstad Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, September 29, on a charge of rape.
“The accused was arrested at his residence in Sakhile village on September 28 by the Northern Cape Provincial Tracking Team and Hartswater Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit.”
He stated that the accused allegedly forced his way into the complainant’s home in Sakhile village where he raped her repeatedly in February 2021 before fleeing the scene.
“The investigating officer collected evidence on the crime scene, including the DNA samples, which were sent to the science laboratory for forensic analysis. The accused was unknown to the victim and an investigation was launched.”
Tawana added that the accused was later linked positively to the crime scene through the DNA results.
“A warrant of arrest was obtained to bring the accused to book.”
He indicated that the case was postponed until October 5 for a formal bail application.
The provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola commended the team for arresting the accused.
