THE ROODEPAN police arrested a 65-year-old man for being in possession of suspected stolen property, including 33 copper Cobra T-joints and 10 copper Cobra taps with an estimated value of R20,325.

The items were confiscated during compliance inspections that were conducted at his premises in Eagle Street, Roodepan, on January 28.

Roodepan police spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam said the team searched the property after receiving information about possible illegal business dealings at a scrap metal business.

“The suspect is expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of possession of stolen property,” Sam added.

The Roodepan station commander, Colonel Pieter Jansen, commended the SAPS members for their “meticulous” work that led to the arrest and recovery of suspected stolen property.

“Roodepan community members complained that perpetrators were destroying infrastructure. This arrest will serve as a deterrent to criminals who attempt to sell stolen goods on the black market.”
