The suspect was arrested for his alleged involvement in the armed robbery in Jan Kempdorp
A SOSHANGUVE man was arrested on charges of armed robbery, attempted murder and possession of a suspected stolen vehicle on the R31 road near Kalahari Lodge on the weekend.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sergio Kock, said that the 31-year-old suspect was apprehended by the Kimberley Visible Policing unit and members of Kimberly Detectives as well as the Tactical Response Team (TRT).
“On Saturday, September 8 2018, at about 11am, the police received a lookout notice for a blue BMW that was allegedly involved in an armed robbery in Jan Kempdorp earlier that morning. The vehicle was spotted on the R31, close to the Kalahari Lodge, with only the male driver inside. Police searched the vehicle and found a licensed firearm and some cash inside. The vehicle was found to have been stolen in Honey Dew in Pretoria in November 2017,” said Kock.
Kock said the suspect was arrested for his alleged involvement in the armed robbery in Jan Kempdorp, where a businessman was robbed of a substantial amount of money.
“The 73-year-old businessman and his employee were on their way to bank cash when they were approached by three men with firearms. The men allegedly fired several shots and fled with the money in a blue BMW that was later found in Kimberley. The three other male suspects are still at large with the cash. Anyone with information can call Detective Constable Stefaans Mangate on 060 963 6397.”
