THE MAN accused of killing a Grade 10 pupil from Makgolokwe Middle School in Kuruman last week has been released on bail.
Jacob Mokgwabone, 38, stands accused of murdering 17-year-old Goitseodimo Gaolape, who died on the school’s premises during school hours on Wednesday, after allegedly being shot by Mokgwabone.
Mokgwabone was apparently outside the school’s premises when the incident occurred.
It is believed that he was being taunted by a group of boys that were inside the school’s premises and allegedly fired a shot at the group. The bullet allegedly ended up hitting and killing Gaolape.
On Friday, Mokgwabone appeared in the Mothibistad Magistrate’s Court and was released on bail.
He had handed himself over to police shortly after the incident.
The incident has sparked widespread fears about safety at schools, as well as a recent rise in gang-related crimes throughout the Province.
