MURDER accused Aldean Wilkinson is expected to apply for bail next week.

Wilkinson appeared in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday where he has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend, Danelle van der Linde, 28, who was expecting their child.

Van der Linde died on the scene after she was stabbed in the neck and back on May 15, in full view of their nine-year-old son.

The SABC was granted permission to televise the court proceedings live, as the broadcaster believed that it was in the public’s interest.

The defence requested that Wilkinson be kept in the holding cells at the Kimberley police station pending finalisation of the bail hearing, as his twin brother is a Correctional Services officer at Kimberley prison.

“It will be a high risk for him to remain incarcerated at a Correctional Services facility.”

Wilkinson will remain in custody until his next court appearance on May 31.

The deceased’s sister, Bianca Saal, stated that the family will allow justice to take its course.

“It is heartbreaking as Danelle’s children want their mother, she always took them to school and put them to bed at night. It is difficult for the family to move on, but we just have to be strong and put our trust in the court.”

Members of the community also attended court on Wednesday to offer their support to the family and indicated that they would also return for the bail application.
