THE KIMBERLEY teenager who was bullied online by “Prudy Ivy Femme” into sending nude pictures on Facebook and WhatsApp testified in court about how she was nearly driven to suicide after befriending and exchanging nude pictures with the accused.

The teen, who was 15 years old at the time of the incident, testified, together with her mother, in the Northern Cape High Court about what transpired over one weekend in April 2020.

The mother and daughter were testifying against murder and rape accused Itumeleng Machabe, who is facing 19 charges in the Northern Cape High Court, including rape, fraud, crimen injuria, attempted extortion, child pornography, attempted murder and murder.

The teen told the court that she felt ashamed and disappointed that she had let her parents down and she felt that there was no way out of the situation she found herself in.

The emotional teen broke down during her testimony.

She told the court that she would not have accepted the friend request from “Prudy” if she knew that she was chatting to a man.

She explained that she only accepted Prudy’s friend request because Prudy told her that she was a young lesbian.

The teen, who revealed in court that she was a lesbian, said she thought that Prudy wanted to start something in the form of a relationship.

She said things “took a wrong turn” after she sent Prudy a nude picture of herself, which they had agreed they would delete after sending.

“I sent her (Prudy) a nude picture without my face on it and she wanted one with my face on it.

“Then she suggested that I date her male cousin. I asked for his picture, which she sent. I didn’t know him, but I told her that he looked too old and that I was only 15 years old.

“She sent me back all my pictures and said if I don’t date the cousin then she will make my pictures trend at my school.

“She also said I must make a video of myself inserting a pencil in my anus. I was very scared,” the teen sobbed.

“I reminded Prudy that we agreed to delete the pictures after sending them. She asked me again whether I wanted the pictures to trend. She again promised that she won’t make them trend if I do as instructed.”

She said Prudy sent her a screenshot of her supposed cousin’s Facebook profile in order for her to send him a friend request.

After inviting the cousin on Facebook, she informed Prudy, who wanted to know whether the cousin had responded. She said ‘no’.

“She told me to try harder and then the cousin accepted the friend request. I asked him who he was, and he said he was Bendow.

“I sent Prudy the conversation and she said I must make sure that I date her cousin. She reminded me to send the video too.

“She sent me three pictures of girls with exposed breasts and with their faces visible.”

She recognised two of the girls as attending her school.

“I told Prudy that my phone was flat and needed to be charged and promised to send the video in the morning. After that, I put the phone away and had to decide whether to tell my mother or commit suicide.

“I came to the decision to tell my mom.

“As soon as I finished telling her the whole story, and showing her proof, my mother took my phone and called Prudy’s number, but it went unanswered. She used her phone to call but it was also not answered.

“My mom then sent her a message saying ‘you’ve messed with the wrong family’.

“She responded by saying ‘sorry.’

The teen said she and her mother then went to the home of one of the three girls in the photo that Prudy had sent.

They found the girl home and asked her whether she recognised the other two girls.

“She could recognise one and gave directions to her home.”

She said that upon arrival at the other girl’s home, they found the grandmother, who said her grandchild was away on holiday.

They explained the purpose of their visit and the grandmother then called the grandchild’s mother to inform her about what was happening.

The teen’s mother meanwhile told the court that she noticed one Friday evening that her daughter was not sleeping and was acting “edgy”.

“The following morning I was getting ready to go to work when she called me to talk to me, at around 6am. She told me about Prudy, whom she had been chatting with and exchanged pictures with.

“She also showed me all the pictures, including the one of the cousin that she was supposed to date.

“She also told me that she wanted to commit suicide due to the demands that Prudy was making,” said the mother.

“I told my child that this story is messed up but we can still fix it. I also told her that no child of mine would commit suicide while I was still alive.

“As she showed me the pictures of the three girls, I recognised one of them. I also saw the WhatsApp profile picture of the cousin and I realised that I knew one of the two women in the profile picture.

“The following Monday, I went to work as usual but asked for some time to go to the provincial commissioner’s office, which was opposite to my workplace.

“There I found Colonel Klassen and her three clerks. I explained my problem to her, that my child is being forced to date this man or make a video of the pencil in her anus.

“When they saw the picture of the man, one of the clerks recognised him as her cousin. She also told us that his name is Itumeleng Bendow.

“I went to the second floor where the detectives are stationed with the FCS (Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences) unit and opened a case because my child was a minor.”

The trial continues.
