Members of SAPS Kimberley, Kagisho, Galeshewe and Roodepan, assisted by the SAPS K9 unit, Flying Squad, Tactical Response Team, Mounted Unit as well as Search and Rescue members executed a cordon and search operation in the informal settlement.
Police spokesperson, Captain Tessa Jansen said 17 bottles of 750 millilitre Black Label beer, two 20 litre dustbins of home brewed concoctions, one crate with 14 full Chibuki cartons and eight empty Chibuku carton crates were found on the premises.
“Another team discovered a dagga plantation where they uprooted 44 cannabis trees and they found one roll of aluminium cable.
“Another team discovered two solar panels that are suspected to be linked to the solar panel theft at the airport.”
She added that during the operation, the Department of Home Affairs searched the informal settlement for any undocumented persons.
“The traffic department had a vehicle checkpoint on the R64 throughout this operation. The joint operation then moved to the Craven Street taxi rank in the CBD. The stalls were searched for any illegal substances and possible stolen property with the help of the narcotics dogs. On the roof of one of the stalls they discovered one sealed bag of Tik, a sealed bag of Mandrax tablets, one sealed bag of dagga weighing 400 grams and a sealed bag with 16 dagga ‘pokes’.”
She added that traffic officers verified the PDP and taxi permits of the taxis present at the rank.
“A team searched a ‘shebeen’ in Colville where they found a blue container of home brewed ‘concoction’ and 15 cartons of Chibuku. Thereafter general crime prevention patrols were done.”
