THE LONG wait is finally over for the Class of 2022 with the release of the National Senior Certificate results today.

Delays in the release of the results were attributed to officials needing “more time for analysis” and schools starting late in 2022 due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic that resulted in disruptions in teaching, examinations and the standardisation of results.

City matrics said that they were anxiously waiting to hear if they could be accepted at university.

Parents indicated that they had to produce their children’s results before bursaries could be awarded.

“It’s stressful because some of us have more than one child attending university and they will require us to pay deposits and residence accommodation before the new academic year starts next month. Students have to be at universities for orientation by January 30.”

Zeta Cole said she was extremely excited about receiving her results.

“The wait has been so frustrating. I am thankful that we were able to write our finals despite school disruptions as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and load shedding.

“It was not easy studying in Kimberley’s unbearable heat during the day and not to mention load shedding at night. I had to push through and give it my all, as I wanted to attain good marks so that I can further my studies in Environmental Development at Stellenbosch University.”

She added that while she was conditionally accepted at Stellenbosch, she had to first submit her matric results to confirm admission.

“My second option will be the University of the Free State.

“Preparations for the exams were not easy and I would not have been able to manage without the support of my teachers and family.

“The examinations were really challenging but fair.”

Alicia Bolokano said she had applied to study at universities in Johannesburg, Bloemfontein and Stellenbosch.

“I am confident that I performed well in the finals.”

Kasey Chase stated that she wanted to become an occupational therapist.

“I worked throughout the night studying for my finals, where I survived on coffee and energy drinks.”
