Local vet’s receptionist in court for theft

A Kimberley man is facing 20 charges of theft after he allegedly stole more than R100 000 while working as a receptionist at a local veterinarian.

A KIMBERLEY man is facing 20 charges of theft after he allegedly stole more than R100 000 while working as a receptionist at a local veterinarian.

Warren du Plessis, 39, from Belgravia in Kimberley, appeared in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on Friday. He faces 20 charges of theft relating to cash allegedly stolen from the Kimberley Veterinary Clinic in Dalham Road while he was employed there as a receptionist by Dr Donovan Smith.

The State alleges that Du Plessis stole R102 693 from the Kimberley Veterinary Clinic from January 2017 to August 2018 during separate incidents.

He was arrested on August 18 this year and subsequently released on R3 000 bail.

On Friday, Du Plessis’ case was postponed to next month.
