THE SKY’S the limit for Wendy Hendricks and her laundry service in Matjieskloof as she seeks to expand her business after receiving support from Kangnas Wind Farm.

Hendricks hopes to expand her business, Wendy’s Laundry, enough to rent premises in Springbok in order to attract more customers, as well as to provide local employment opportunities.

Hendricks established the business after identifying a gap in the local laundry market and she subsequently received funding from Kangnas Wind Farm as part of its Oranjefontein Biodiversity programme.

She has been able to equip and grow the laundry business and provide local employment and services to the small town of Matjieskloof and surrounding communities.

At the moment, the business is operating from her home and is doing well thanks to the support of the locals.

The business has benefited from financial and mentoring assistance, essential equipment and other non-financial services from Kangnas Wind Farm to help maintain and grow it.

The wind farm also bought Wendy’s Laundry two washing machines, a tumble dryer, a generator, an industrial scale and two irons and ironing boards, as well as washing powder and fabric softener.

Among the non-financial services provided are six months of mentorship, training and implementation of a financial system, a laptop, a logo design, the creation of a business profile, development of contracts and indemnity forms and the establishment of a Facebook page.

Hendricks expressed her gratitude towards the wind farm and said the support has been exceedingly helpful.

“I am very grateful for the equipment, which will help me run my business successfully. I also received financial assistance, which enabled me to focus on essential needs such as a water tank,” said Hendricks.

“It is my dream and goal for my laundry business to become very successful and to grow. I would like to open more laundromats in other areas where there are job shortages for women.”

The economic development manager for Kangnas Wind Farm, Rouchet Daniels, explained that the intervention was part of the wind farm’s objective to support SMMEs

“We saw it fit to support Wendy’s Laundry with equipment and other non-financial services, which in turn will help boost the local economy,” explained Daniels.

“Through this support, SMMEs like this one are also able to create opportunities for employment.

With the correct guidance, attitude and quality service, we believe that Wendy’s Laundry can make a success of the business.”
