The Danielskuil Regional Court this week sentenced a 25-year-old man to eight years in prison for the attempted murder of his girlfriend, whom he stabbed multiple times.
THE DANIELSKUIL Regional Court this week convicted and sentenced 25-year-old Thabiso Maphala to eight years in prison for the attempted murder of his girlfriend.
Two years of this sentence are suspended for five years on the condition that he is not convicted of attempted murder during the suspension period. Additionally, he has been declared unfit to possess a firearm.
Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Molefi Shemane said that Maphala was sentenced on November 13 for stabbing his 22-year-old girlfriend, Iris Letsebe, four times with a knife on November 20, 2023, at the Finsch Hostels in Lime Acres.
The ZF Mgcawu district acting commissioner, Brigadier Peet Coetzee, commended the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Zamubuntu Ngebulani, and the prosecutor, Kenneth Motsatsi, for their collaborative efforts in securing justice for the victim of gender-based violence.
Sergeant Shemane said the SAPS urges the public to report criminal activities by calling Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or using the MySAPS app. For crimes related to extortion, reports can be made to the Extortion Hotline at 0800 911 011. All information provided will be treated confidentially, he said.
The police also encourage community members to participate in the “Rate Our Service” online survey to help the SAPS improve its service to the public.
