THE LENMED hospital group has announced the tightening of its Covid-19 precautionary measures to ensure the safety of patients, employees, doctors and the community.

Lenmed spokesperson Michelle Naidoo said yesterday that in strict accordance with the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) and the National Department of Health Protocols, Lenmed had implemented the necessary measures along with its usual standards to manage any suspected or confirmed Covid-19 patients to prevent any potential transmission in its facilities.

“In addition we have strict access control and screening on entering at all our facilities, which may be adjusted,” Naidoo added.

This includes the screening of everyone entering the hospital, only one visitor per patient and only one visiting time per day.

“The safety of our patients, employees, visitors, doctors and community members is our priority,” Naidoo added. She stated further that the hospital’s staff and facilities were prepared for the Covid-19 outbreak and procedures were aligned with the NICD guidelines.

“Our facilities and emergency units are operating as usual.”

Naidoo said patients with severe Covid-19 symptoms such as shortness of breath were requested to call ahead to the Accident and Emergency Department to arrange for possible admission. All other patients, including those with mild symptoms or those seeking testing, are requested to contact their GPs for advice.
